Ingredients

for soft pretzels

  • cups all-purpose flour and a bit more for dusting
  • ½ teaspoon instant yeast
  • teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil and a bit more to coat the dough
  • cup water + 3 cups divided
  • tablespoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons coarse salt

for cheese dip

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil melted or vegan butter
  • ¼ teaspoon salt to taste
  • teaspoon turmeric powder
  • teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
  • ¼ cup cider if you don’t have any, mix apple juice and sparkling water
  • ½ teaspoon maple syrup

Instructions

For soft pretzels

  • Combine the flour, instant yeast, and salt in a mixing bowl. Add olive oil and 1⁄3 cup water. Mix and knead by hand until a soft dough forms or put all the ingredients in a kitchen machine and let the machine knead the dough for you. This will take 4 to 5 minutes. Fine-tune the mixture: If it’s too sticky, add more flour. If it’s too crumbly, add more water.
  • Coat the ball of dough with a drizzle of olive oil. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rest in a warm spot for 2 to 3 hours (depending on room temperature) until it doubles in size.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F/200°C.
  • Divide the dough into 4 equal parts, roll them into ropes, and cut them into bite-sized pieces.
  • In a medium-sized pot, bring the remaining 3 cups water to a boil. Add in the baking soda and stir to combine.
  • Work in batches to cook all the pretzel bites in the baking soda bath for 1 minute. Then, transfer them to a baking tray lined with parchment paper and sprinkle them with pretzel salt.
  • Bake them in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes until golden and serve with a side of cider cheese dip. You’ve waited long enough. Dig in!

For cheese dip

  • Heat the coconut oil or butter in a small pot over low heat. Add the salt, turmeric powder, and curry powder. Add in the flour and whisk. Add nutritional yeast and whisk again until clumpy.
  • Add in the cider and maple syrup and whisk on low heat for a few minutes until creamy. If it gets too thick, add more water or cider and whisk again to make it smooth and creamy. Set aside until pretzel bites are ready to serve.

Step-By-Step Instructions

Here’s the rundown on how to make these vegan game day puff pastry footballs!

Step 1: Prepare the vegan ground meat according to the package instructions. In a sauté pan, heat oil, sauté onion and garlic until translucent, then add frozen peas and cook until warmed. Add the vegan ground meat, cook for 4 minutes, remove from heat, and set aside.

Step 2: Sprinkle flour over a flat surface, and using a rolling pin, roll puff pastry sheets until they are twice their original size. Cut out football shapes of uniform size and place half on a lined or greased baking sheet.

Step 3: Brush a thin layer of melted coconut oil along the edges of the dough on the baking sheet. Spoon taco meat onto the center of each pastry piece, leaving a 1/2-inch border for sealing.

Place them atop the bottom dough, covering the plant-based meat filling, and seal tightly using a fork to crimp the edges together. Place on top of the bottom pastry dough, covering the plant meat filling, and seal tightly using a fork. Push down hard with the fork prongs to crimp or the dough may not stay closed. Brush top with coconut oil and bake for 20 minutes until golden. Remove from the oven and enjoy as soon as they cool!

This recipe makes about 15-20 football puff pastries depending on your football cookie cutter and how thin you roll the puff pastry. We used the big and medium size of these cookie cutters.

  • Vegan sour cream—Opt for a dairy-free sour cream alternative for richness and tanginess.
  • Vegan Worcestershire sauce—Ensure your Worcestershire sauce is vegan-friendly. If you can’t find any, feel free to omit it.
  • White vinegar—Adds a touch of acidity to balance out the richness.
  • Fresh herbs—Dill, parsley, and chives add tons of flavor to this vegan ranch dip. You can use dried herbs, but you’ll need to adjust the amount 3:1 fresh to dry.

How to Make Vegan Cauliflower Wings

Vegan wings are easy to make and incredibly delicious with just a few simple ingredients! All you need is some cauliflower, seasonings, and your favorite vegan buffalo sauce.

Step 1: Start by preheating your oven to 400 degrees F and line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Step 2: Wash the cauliflower and chop it into florets. You can make them bigger or small depending on your preference of wing size.

Vegan Buffalo Cauliflower Wings

These vegan cauliflower buffalo wings make a perfect game-day snack, and once you try them, you'll be hooked for life. They are gluten-free and of course, vegan!The ranch dip is especially delicious. I know it takes a little extra time to whip it together yourself (rather than using a store-bought option) but it will be worth it, I promise!

Ingredients

Vegan Wings

  • 2 medium cauliflower heads (about 2 lbs each) chopped into florets
  • 1 cup white rice flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 12-ounce bottle buffalo wing sauce I used Frank’s Red Hot which is available at most supermarkets

Vegan Ranch Dip

  • 1 cup vegan mayo
  • ½ cup vegan sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vegan Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives chopped
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Combine the water, white rice flour, salt, paprika, and garlic powder in a large bowl. Whisk together to combine.
  • Thoroughly coat the cauliflower florets with the batter and place on the prepared baking sheet, evenly spaced out.
  • Bake on the center rack for 18-20 minutes, until they are slightly brown on the top.
  • Meanwhile, prepare the vegan ranch dip. Add all of the ingredients to a bowl and mix well to combine. Set aside.
  • Remove cauliflower wings from the oven and coat them in buffalo sauce. For best results, pour the sauce into a bowl and carefully dip each cauliflower into the sauce using a slotted spoon or fork (cauliflower will be hot).
  • Return buffalo cauliflower back into oven to crisp up for another 5 minutes.

Tip – If you don’t have white rice flour, it is fine to use regular flour if gluten-free is not a necessity for you.
Storage – Store leftover vegan wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Dry cereal can be a great finger food, especially on long car trips or days outside since it doesn’t need to be refrigerated. Pack single servings of your favorite vegan cereal in reusable pouches or zip top bags for grab-and-go convenience.

Ingredients

Brine:

  • 2 cups white vinegar
  • 2 cups water
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt

Pickled Veggie Options:

  • Fill wide-mouth mason jars with your choice of vegetables to pickle.
  • Add any desired spices and mix-ins.
  • Pour the hot liquid over the veggies until each jar is full. Close the jars and store in the fridge.

Notes

  • Feel free to mix a few of each type of veggie into one mason jar or, if you’d prefer, make each mason jar a different veggie.
  • The longer you let the veggies sit in the brine, the better they’ll taste. They can be eaten right away, but at least give them 3 days to marinate for maximum flavor. 
  • You can use any type of mason jar, but the wide mouthed version gives you the most space for adding vegetables.

Vegetable Broth: Soaking the soy curls helps to rehydrate them for the best consistency. You can either use your own homemade or store bought vegetable broth or your favorite vegan bouillon mixed with water. You don’t have to stick to vegetable broth, either. Choose from vegan chicken, mushroom broth, or other flavors, too!

Sliced Vegetables: Thinly sliced bell peppers and onions are the traditional shape for fajitas, but you can mix it up by using large chunks, diced veggies, or even zoodles (zucchini noodles) instead!

Step 1: Prepare the Soy Curls: Soak the soy curls in vegetable broth. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. If you’re using a different plant-based protein, you can skip this step.

Step 2: Sauté Vegetables: Sauté the sliced bell peppers, onions and garlic in oil until they are tender-crisp and slightly caramelized. You can also use a frozen vegetable mix from the grocery store. They might just take a little longer to cook.

How long do vegan fajitas keep?

Fajita ingredients should last 3-4 days if stored in a sealed container in the fridge. Keep the tortillas separate instead of preparing a batch of fajita wraps with filling. This will keep the fajitas from getting soggy and will make reheating much easier.

Can you make this vegan fajita recipe gluten-free?

Yes! Instead of flour tortillas, use corn tortillas. Or, better yet, homemade corn tortillas!

How do I reheat frozen or refrigerated fajitas?

Reheat refrigerated fajita filling in the microwave or in a skillet until desired temperature. Do the same for the tortillas and then assemble. Feel free to use an air fryer to reheat both at the same time—350 degrees for 3-5 minutes or until it’s warmed to your liking.   • 2 cups soy curls
  • 2 cups vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 red bell pepper sliced

Instructions

  • Combine soy curls and vegetable broth in a large bowl and set aside.
  • In a large frying pan, heat oil over medium heat.
  • Add the bell pepper, onion, and garlic, and saute for 5 minutes, or until onions are translucent.
  • Drain Soy Curls (save the broth for future use or discard), turn heat to medium-high, and add the soy curls, cayenne (if using), cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir-fry, allowing the fajita ingredients to sit undisturbed so the peppers and soy curls start to char. Mix just regularly enough to prevent sticking and burning. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  • Add buffalo sauce and mix thoroughly.
  • Place each tortilla on a burner with the flame turned on low, and allow each tortilla to warm up, and also develop a light char before flipping, repeating, and then moving to the next tortilla.
  • Fill taco tortillas with the buffalo soy curl fajita mixture and serve with a wedge of lime and any toppings you desire!

The most common brand is Spectrum. “Virgin” coconut oil will taste like coconut, which is best to use for coconut-flavored dishes. “Refined” coconut oil will have no flavor and is the best for an all-purpose buttery spread.
  • Sunflower or Safflower Oil – Both oils have a light, neutral flavor profile that contribute a smooth texture without overpowering other flavors.
  • Non-Dairy Milk – Use plain, unsweetened plant milk such as almond, soy, or oat milk.
  • Lecithin – This powerful little powder is used to emulsify or combine the ingredients. Although lecithin is most commonly made from soy, sunflower lecithin is becoming more popular. Look for it in the supplement section of health food stores or online. You can find sunflower lecithin powder here and refined coconut oil here! Both of these ingredients are easily found on Amazon, but it’s worth checking your local health food store first.

How To Make Homemade Vegan Butter

Easy peasy! In your blender add the coconut oil, sunflower oil, plant milk, lecithin powder, and salt, and process for a maximum of 60 seconds. Be careful not to overdo this step. Blending for too long might make the oils separate and that’s something you want to avoid.

Pour your creamy mixture into a chilled container and refrigerate. As soon as your blended butter is firm, it’s ready to spread!

This is a soft, spreadable butter. If you’d like something harder, simply decrease the sunflower or safflower oil and increase the coconut oil. You can start with ¾ cup sunflower or safflower and 1 cup coconut oil, and adjust by the tablespoon until you get your preferred texture. Just make sure that the total of both oils always equals 1¾ cup.

Your homemade vegan butter should last for 2 to 4 weeks depending on how often you leave out and how much you let it melt. Try to keep it in the fridge whenever you’re not using it, especially on hot days!

  • Savory Spread: Use as you would any butter substitute—spread it onto bread, toast, and crackers. You can also use it as a spread for muffins and bagels.
  • Popcorn: Melt the butter and drizzle it over vegan popcorn, then toss with seasonings.
  • Buttery Flavor: When you need to add a buttery flavor to roasted veggies, mashed potatoes, or sauces and gravies, use this homemade butter! It goes great with these cauliflower steaks, roasted potatoes and broccoli, and vegan stuffed acorn squash. Pretty much anytime you have a recipe that calls for butter or oil, this vegan butter can be used!
  • Tea Time Topping: For those of you who (like me) love tea parties and tiny tea sandwiches, you’ll love having the option of shaping your own butter beauties. Pour your newly mixed butter mixture into a silicone baking mold (candy molds are the best size) before refrigerating. When the mixture is completely cool, gently pop out the adorable butter shapes onto some waxed paper or parchment. Arrange in a single layer in a covered container and store in the fridge. To serve, place these pleasant pats of butter in a pretty glass bowl (chilled) on the table. Voilà!

Originally based in Ohio, this chicken wing chain is known for its popular, party-time appetizers. While this rowdy restaurant is revving up for more locations, they’re letting us down with any real plant-based options. Is there anything vegan at Buffalo Wild Wings?

Although we were surprised to discover any options at all, it’s always a disappointment when the menu items are so measly. With more and more vegan-friendly, fast food updates happening on a weekly basis, it’s incredible that some restaurants are still resistant to real, plant-based offerings.

A question we hear on a regular basis is, “Are the fries vegan?” The answer, in this case, is a firm and final no. Why not? Keep reading and we’ll explain.

How to Navigate the Buffalo Wild Wings Menu

In order to keep things simple, let’s just start with the basics. If you follow our lead, you can leave this restaurant without being too ravenous. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Beverage – Luckily, it’s pretty easy to find something dairy-free to quench your thirst.
  • Appetizer – Choose from a boat of everything pretzel knots or carrots and celery sticks with guacamole, salsa, pico de gallo, or sauce of your choice. Take a chance on asking for the Asian Zing Cauliflower to be baked instead of fried and you’ve got yourself another appealing appetizer!
  • Main Meal – Consider the black bean burger or grilled chicken wrap (or order of buffalitos) without the chicken, cheese, or sour cream and served on a challah bun. You’ll come away with grilled tortillas with pico de gallo and sauce or seasoning. Ask for additional veggies to bulk it up.
  • Side Dish – Garden salad or white rice will help to round out your meal with a bit more fiber and fullness.
  • Dessert – Mandarin oranges are a sweet, satisfying option.

NOTE: Keep in mind that all fried foods are not vegan-friendly. Make sure to swap out the fries for a different side.

Vegan Buffalo Wild Wings Options

With both “buffalo” and “wings” in the restaurant’s title, you can pretty much guarantee that the menu offerings will be very low or pretty much no. But, before we give up altogether, there are still some options on the menu that are vegan-friendly. Here’s what’s available:

  • Celery Sticks
  • Everything Pretzel Knots (no beer cheese or honey mustard)
  • Garden Side Salad (no cheese or croutons)
  • Guacamole
  • Mandarin Oranges
  • Southwest Black Bean Burger (no cheese or ranch)
  • White Rice (only available at Hawaii locations)

While the wings might win some people over, we’re more interested in the Buffalo Wild Wings vegan sauces and seasonings. If there’s only a few ways to fill up on food, we need to favor the flavor factor. Here are the vegan options:

  • Dry Rubs (all are vegan-friendly except buffalo)
  • Hot Sauce (not mild or medium, which contain egg for some reason)

What’s Not Vegan at Buffalo Wild Wings?

We’ll sum in it in five simple words: If it’s fried, forget it. Such a huge bummer (and that’s us being patient and polite about it)! Nothing is spared for our sensitive minds and stomachs.

All fried foods; including fries, tots, chips, wedges, pickles, onion rings, etc. are not vegan-friendly. Not only are they cross-contaminated in shared fryers, but they also use beef fat for frying all of their foods.

Are the Asian Zing Cauliflower Wings Vegan?

Take a chance and request that the cauliflower wings be baked instead of fried in beef fat. That way, they would be vegan-friendly. The only problem is that some Buffalo Wild Wings locations may not honor this request. If you’re feeling brave, give it a try! We’ve heard that they’re pretty tasty.

Are The Buffalo Wild Wings Chips and Salsa Vegan?

So sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the tortilla chips are fried in beef fat.

Is the vegetarian black bean burger at Buffalo Wild Wings vegan?

Yes! Their veggie black bean burger used to contain both dairy and eggs but, luckily, their replacement (Morningstar Black Bean Burger) is vegan-friendly.

Are the cauliflower wings vegan at Buffalo Wild Wings?

This one is debatable. Some locations, but not all, will bake your wings instead of deep frying them, if you ask. Also make sure to request no ranch dressing. Best to call before visiting or ordering to make sure. If they can bake them and skip the dressing, then yes, the cauliflower wings will be vegan! Otherwise they’re a no-go.

Are the fried pickles at Buffalo Wild Wings vegan?

No. We’re sorry to say that nothing fried at Buffalo Wild Wings is vegan-friendly because of the animal-based fat used in their deep fryers.

  • Browse the Buffalo Wild Wings menu before ordering.
  • If ordering Buffalo Wild Wings online or through a delivery service, make sure you clearly specify any substitutions you would like. If you’re worried that your request may not be honored (or seen by the server at Buffalo Wild Wings), it might be a better idea to go there directly to order.
  • Check out their Nutrition Guide and Allergen & Preparation page to make sure that you are purchasing a vegan-friendly item. The menu items offered at Buffalo Wild Wings don’t seem to change very often, but you may want to double check before you visit.

Creating a Kinder and More Accessible Buffalo Wild Wings 

Although we might give a thumbs-down to Buffalo Wild Wings for their lack of vegan-friendly food, we’ll still keep hoping! While it’s not the healthiest vegan fast food option, people with plant-based preferences might want to visit with their friends sometimes.
